FRUIT BODY: Up to 0.4cm wide (per fruit body). This densely clustered species is usually found in two stages with the Perfect (sexual stage) stage comprising of brownish-red oval structures with a nipple-like projection at the apex. The Conidial stage is more common and is made up of numerous coral pink cushion like structures (see above). GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Red and very hard and somewhat brittle. SPORES: Hyaline, smooth, ellipsoid. HABITAT: On twigs, branches and logs of various deciduous trees especially Beech. Very rarely on coniferous trees. SEASON: Very common. Throughout the year. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
